Popular vegan blogger and cookbook author, Virpi Mikkonen, has shared early menopause led her to start eating meat again.
According to Women’s Health, Mikkonen – who has followed a strict vegan diet for the last decade – started suffering from early menopause at the age of 37 and developed a rash on her face. Concerned, she visited a Chinese medicine specialist who told the plant-based foodie she needed to start incorporating animal products back into her diet again.

✨LIFE IS SO EXCITING SOMETIMES ↝ Had to share this photo with you because it’s one of the shots from my cover story of this month’s Blue Wings magazine (and inflight magazine of Finnair @feelfinnair airline) and I can’t believe I’ll be flying around the world with hundreds of thousands of people (about a million to be exact. 🙈) who’ll get to see a climpse of my garden and read my story. So crazy and so exciting. And the first time for me as a cover girl on a wide distribution mag, haha. 😜 So if you’re travelling with Finnair this month you’ll find me from the seat pocket right in front of you. 👋🏽 You can also read the online version through the link I just shared on my Stories. Thank you Blue Wings editorial staff ( @ainoahtiainen & crew) for having me & super photographer @riikka_kantinkoski for the beautiful photos. 💋 Kisses & Have a fun weekend folks! #vanelja #bluewingsmagazine #feelfinnair

Mikkonen took the practitioner’s advice, adding eggs to her breakfast and chicken to her lunch.
“It’s amazing,” Mikkonen shared with the Daily Mail. “I feel energetic, motivated. I’m sleeping better, the hot flushes, and aching in my body have stopped.”
According to Women’s Health, Mikkonen’s periods also returned.
“Some people need animal products for them to be healthy,” Virpi told the Daily Mail. “No one diet is going to suit everyone.”
