Weight Watchers have announced they will be undergoing a transformation in an effort to focus more on overall wellness, instead of just dieting. The company will now be known simply as WW with the slogan “Wellness that Works” and will include a new wellness plan featuring healthy habits options and rewards, a partnership with the meditation app Headspace, fitness points and more group connections.
“The idea of going from weight to wellness is more sustainable to people, because we’re giving them more than just a short-term solution,” CEO Mindy Grossman revealed on the Today show.
“We are becoming the world’s partner in wellness,” Grossman said in a press release. “No matter what your goal is – to lose weight, eat healthier, move more, develop a positive mind-set, or all of the above – we will deliver science-based solutions that fit into people’s lives.”
WW will also be overhauling the Weight Watchers point system. WW users will still continue to count point during meals as they always have, but can now earn fitness points for working out. Points will now also be based on people’s height, weight, age and sex and differ based on the type of workout they do. “We’re taking the science of what has worked in food and applying it to health and exercise,” Grossman revealed.
