This year’s winner is Miss Philippines – 24-year-old Catriona Gray – who beat first runner-up Tamaryn Green from South Africa and Sthefany Gutierrez from Venezuela who came in third.
Wearing a sparkling red dress, inspired by a volcano in the Philippines, Gray told the audience she wore red because, “when I was 13 my mom said she had a dream that I would win Miss Universe in a red dress.”
“My heart is filled with so much attitude,” the singer and model said after winning the iconic contest. “There were moments of doubt when I felt overwhelmed and I felt the pressure.”
Gray, whose father is Australian, was born and grew up in Cairns, Australia and studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
