“Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin has passed away at the age of 76 after a battle with advanced pancreatic cancer, according to the
Associated Press.
“Franklin’s official cause of death was due to advanced pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type,” a spokesperson for the Franklin family revealed in a statement, adding the music icon passed away at her Detroit home Thursday morning.
“In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart,” the family said in a statement. “We have lost the matriarch and the rock of our family.”
