With fast-food joints across the nation offering up meatless options for vegetarians, Taco Bell has announced they will roll out what call their “not-so-new ‘new’ vegetarian menu.”
Starting September 12, Taco Bell non-meat-eaters can pick up such vegetarian delicacies as the long-running Bean Burrito and a brand-new Black Bean Quesarito. Although Taco Bell has long offered meatless options, for the first time the fast-food chain will have a separate menu board dedicated to vegetarian options with four items listed on the board: a new Black Bean Crunchwrap Supreme, the new Black Bean Quesarito, 7-Layer Burrito, and Bean Burrito.
“While other fast-food restaurants are just now dipping their toes in the meatless space, Taco Bell has long been a friend to vegetarians,” the company said in a statement. “The bean burrito has been on the menu for 50 years and is Taco Bell’s second best-selling item.”
Along with the dedicated vegetarian menu board, Taco Bell has additional vegetarian items on its regular menu, all “indicated by an easy-to-spot vegetarian symbol.”
According to USA Today, the vegetarian items do come with a disclaimer – “vegetarian and meat ingredients are handled in common, and cross-contact may occur, which may not be acceptable to certain types of vegetarian diets.”
