Tom Hanks is going to play Mr. Rogers because of course he is! Who else to better portray a national treasure than another national treasure!

The movie, produced by TriStar Pictures, focuses on the relationship between Fred Rogers and cynical journalist Tom Junod who wrote an article about the children’s television pioneer for Esquire magazine in 1998.
Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers is like my childhood coming back to sprinkle fairy dust on all my open, bleeding adult wounds. 😭 pic.twitter.com/xmjUwr2T3i

I'm sorry but if Tom Hanks playing Mr. Rogers isn't the most perfect thing you've ever heard of, I don't think I can be friends with you anymore.

In a statement from TriStar Pictures, the movie company describes the film as “a cynical journalist begrudgingly accepts an assignment to write a profile piece on the beloved icon and finds his perspective on life transformed.”
Hold on, Tom Hanks got to be Walt Disney AND he's going to be Mr. Rogers? Did we just agree he gets to play everyone who made our childhood great?

Well, @tomhanks is gonna play Mr. Rogers. I can't overstate how much Fred Rogers shaped the better parts of my nature and made me believe kindness and understanding are worthy virtues, and I can't wait to see this project reach fruition. pic.twitter.com/74QAcUXNk1
