Nicolas Cage is about to unleash his inner ‘Tiger King’ as he takes on the role of Joe Exotic in an upcoming television series.
According to the
Associated Press, the limited, eight-part project will be the movie actor’s first foray into television. In the series, Cage will portray the infamous Oklahoma zoo owner, who captured America’s fascination when his murder-for-hire story was told in the popular Netflix documentary
Tiger King.
Imagine Television Studios and CBS Studios are among the producers of the series, which will explore how Joe Shreibvogel became Joe Exotic and detail his effort to keep his Oklahoma zoo open “even at the risk of losing his sanity,” producers revealed.
The television series is based based on the Texas Monthly magazine article “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild” by Leif Reigstad.
