Suffering from insomnia? Night after night of restless sleep can start to have a negative impact on not only your mental health but also your physical health – however, according to one dietician, help may be at hand thanks to a certain fruit.
According to Eat This, Not That!, kiwi fruit can help us get a better night’s sleep and it’s as easy as eating just two kiwi fruit before bed.
“While tried-and-true bedtime snacks like a warm and soothing mug of milk can help people unwind and get some restful sleep, I have found that one evening ritual that people are happy to stick to is to eat two kiwi fruits before they hit the hay,” Lauren Manaker, MS, RDN, LD, a registered dietitian told Eat This, Not That!.
“Kiwis naturally contain serotonin, a neurotransmitter that, when levels are low, may negatively affect quality sleep,” Manaker said. “In one study, people who ate two kiwi fruits one hour before bed for four weeks experienced increased total sleep time and sleep efficiency.”
Kiwi fruit is not only great for sleep, but the tasty green treat is also packed full of fiber, which helps us stay fuller longer.
“Since kiwis naturally contain fiber, eating them can promote satiety, too, helping you sleep through the night with no hunger pangs,” Manaker told Eat This, Not That!.
