Sephora is temporarily closing all of their locations during the morning of June 5 to train employees on how to promote inclusion in the beauty community.
The move comes after musician SZA tweeted earlier in the month an employee at a Calabasas, California Sephora called security on her.
“We take complaints like this very seriously, profiling on the basis of race is not tolerated at Sephora,” the company said in a statement to
Business Insider. “Our purpose has always been rooted in our people and ensuring that Sephora is an inclusive and welcoming space for all our clients.”
The company announced they would be holding workshops on inclusion in a social media post, writing, “On the morning of 6/5 every Sephora store, distribution center, and corporate office in the US will close to host inclusion workshops for our employees. These values have always been at the heart of Sephora, and we’re excited to welcome everyone when we reopen.”
