This Valentine’s Day, a new version of Sweethearts candy conversation hearts will be available for people in situationships, who are not quite single but not quite in a relationship, Sweethearts maker Spangler announced.
Singles are taking ‘situationships’ to the next level this year, and Sweethearts is here for them, Evan Brock, vice president of marketing for Spangler said in a statement. The printing on Sweethearts isn’t always perfect. This is our way of embracing those imperfections in a way that taps into pop culture.
The iconic Sweethearts candies typically feature printed messages like Be Mine and True Love on the pastel hearts. For situationships, those messages are as blurry as your relationship, according to the packaging.
Situationships are romantic entanglements with no labels, exclusivity or boundaries, according to the Cleveland Clinic, which said the status could apply to that one person you meet up with whenever they happen to be in town to your go-to ‘plus one’ for couple-y events.
Noting that the word ‘situationship’ was one of the top four words considered for the Oxford University Press 2023 Word of the Year, Spangler is offering misprinted candies that are as hard to read as Gen-Z relationships.
The Sweethearts Situationship Box, filled entirely with sweet, muddled nothings and literal mixed messages, will be available for a limited time, while supplies last.
