Oprah Winfrey has joined the Weight Watchers team, signing a 5-year-deal worth an estimated $43 million. The media mogul now owns 10% of the company and has a seat on the board of directors.
Winfrey shared her personal struggles with weight in a commercial for the weight-loss company.
She spoke while the footage flashed back to moments throughout her life when she had tried to lose the pounds. She stated, “Inside every overweight woman is a woman she knows she can be. Many times you look in the mirror and you don’t even recognize your own self because you got lost, buried in the weight that you carry.”
She added, “Nothing you’ve ever been through is wasted. So every time I tried and failed, every time I tried again, and every time I tried again, has brought me to this most powerful moment to say, ‘If not now, when?'”
“I feel that way, and I know millions of other people feel that way. Are you ready? Let’s do this together.”

Winfrey shared that she was hesitant to stand behind Weight Watchers before trying the company’s signature “point system” program for herself. She said that after losing 15 pounds with this method, she was in.
