Iris Mittenaere, a 26-year-old dental student who represented France in the Miss Universe contest, has been named Miss Universe 2016.
Beating out 86 beautiful contestants from around the world, Miss France became the 65th Miss Universe and the second win for France, who last won the sought after crown back in 1953. She is also the first winner from a Western European country since Miss Norway won the crown in 1990.
“I’m very proud to bring this crown to Europe,”Mittenaere stated after the competition, adding, “Every step was a surprise, I wanted to cry at every step, I feel blessed.”
Miss Haiti won first runner-up, with Miss Columbia winning second runner-up.
Miss France revealed her mission during her year as Miss Universe will be to help all children, with a focus on helping girls around the world attend school.
