Judging from an interview with Katy Perry’s longtime hairstylist, the singer’s ultra-short pixie hairstyle is here to stay!
In an interview with
People, Perry’s longtime colorist Rick Henry from L.A.’s Nine Zero One Salon told the mag he noticed a real change in Perry’s demeanor once she chopped off her locks into a platinum pixie cut.
“She definitely felt like a strong, powerful woman,” Henry said of how Perry felt after cutting off her long hair. “It is very scary for a woman to cut off her hair. And once you do, it is liberating. You feel amazing and powerful. It is almost like you’ve transformed into this sexy woman.”
Perry’s trendy pixie cut has also allowed for the singer to play around with a ton of creative hair colors, something Henry and Perry really had fun with for the European and Asian leg of her
Witness tour. Henry told
People they experimented with some of the boldest colors yet, including pink, purple and green.
“I know the pink hair was such a big thing and people loved it so much,” Henry revealed. “We were in Asia and it was cherry blossom season and it was blooming everywhere. That gave us the inspiration.”
So what are some things you should consider if you’re thinking of getting a pixie cut? According to L’Oreal Paris you may want to start with a longer pixie cut since it’s such a dramatic hairstyle. If you like it after the initial cut, you can always go shorter. They also say be prepared to keep getting trims since this is a hairstyle that grows out quickly. L’Oreal also say there will be a period of adjustment to how you style your hair, suggesting you take the time to play around with different products and texturizers.
