The internet’s most famous feline “Grumpy Cat” has sadly passed away after a recent bout with a urinary tract infection.
“Grumpy Cat” shot to fame in 2012 after a YouTube video featuring her iconic scowl and grumpy face went viral amassing an astonishing 15.7 million views.
Since then “Grumpy Cat” – whose real name was Tardar Sauce – earned a reported $100 million fortune, which included a series of books, a movie, countless memes and as the spokescat for Friskies catfood. At the time of her death she had 2.4 million followers on Instagram.

The wealthy feline’s owners took to Instagram to share the heartbreaking news, telling Grumpy’s worldwide fans, “Despite care from top professionals, as well as from her very loving family, Grumpy encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection that unfortunately became too tough for her to overcome. She passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 14, at home in the arms of her mommy, Tabatha.”
“Besides being our baby and a cherished member of our family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world – even when times were tough,” Grumpy Cat’s family told fans. “Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere.”
