According to the Mayo Clinic, Aphasia is a condition that robs people of their ability to communicate and affects the ability to write, speak, and understand both written and verbal language. Aphasia typically occurs after a stroke or head injury. The Mayo Clinic reports it can also come on gradually as the result of a slow-growing brain tumor, or degenerative disease.
