Dyson, yes the company that revolutionized vacuums, unveiled a new product this week promising to change the game when it comes to hair.
It’s called the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer and retails for $399. It took over four years, thousands of strands of hair and over $60 million dollars to create.
The handheld gadget looks different from the standard hair dryer, with the motor located in the handle versus the head. Like that of a fan, the hairdryer sucks in the air at the base, then the fan sends out air via a thin opening at the edge of the circular rim. Source: Dyson Supersonic
Dyson claims the new technology will help with heat damage and offers three different attachments that are magnetic and easily snap on.
Founder Sir James Dyson stated in a press release, “We realized that hair dryers can cause extreme heat damage to hair. So I challenged Dyson engineers to really understand the science of hair and develop our version of a hair dryer, which we think solves these problems.”
The hairdryer has received mixed reviews. While one of Kim Kardashian’s hair stylists, Jen Atkin, calls is a “game changer” other hairstyling professionals such as Joanne Morgan told CNN, “I think it’s definitely a luxury rather than a necessity.”
The Dyson Supersonic is available at Sephora with other retailers set to follow.
