Tributes Pour In For Designer Kate Spade

Tributes have been pouring in for American designer Kate Spade after she was found unresponsive in her Manhattan apartment from a suspected suicide. Spade was a pioneer in the accessories fashion industry, starting her iconic handbag line in the 1993 alongside the man who would later become her husband, Andy Spade. Former First Daughters Chelsea Clinton and Jenna Bush Hager both took to Twitter sharing they received their first Kate Spade handbags as presents in college. Actress Mindy Kaling reflected on how Spade’s designs made her feel, tweeting, “They were colorful, bold, cheerful, and encouraged women to find the twinkly person inside them. You couldn’t walk into her boutiques and not smile.” Fashion designers took to social media to share their condolences, with Michael Kors calling the designer, “Charming, talented and gone too soon.” Kate Spade New York shared, “Kate Spade, the visionary founder of our brand, has passed. Our thoughts are with her family at this incredibly heartbreaking time. We honor all the beauty she brought into this world.” Other celebrities urged those suffering from mental health issues, or feelings of suicide to contact help, with Ginger Zee tweeting, “As someone who has suffered with suicidal thoughts and mental health challenges, I truly hope this keeps the conversation going for other families so we don’t lose more people to this disease.”
Finally, Kate Spade’s brother-in-law actor David Spade mourned the loss of the designer by sharing a favorite photo. “Fuzzy picture but i love,” the actor wrote on Instagram. “Kate and I during Christmas family photos. We had so much fun that day. She was so sharp and quick on her feet. She could make me laugh so hard. I still cant believe it. Its a rough world out there people, try to hang on.”
The 55-year-old designer leaves behind her husband and her 13-year-old daughter.
