The Titanic II, a replica of the doomed Titanic ship, will set sail in 2022 on a two-week maiden voyage from Dubai to the UK port of Southampton. Blue Star Line first announced the idea of building a replica in 2012, but due to financial constraints that project was put on hold – until now.
Following its maiden voyage, the Titanic II will then embark on a historic journey from Southampton to the U.S. following the same route the original Titanic took in 1912, minus hopefully hitting an iceberg. The vessel will then spend the remainder of its inaugural year sailing on different world cruises. “The ship will follow the original journey, carrying passengers from Southampton to New York, but she will also circumnavigate the globe, inspiring and enchanting people while attracting unrivaled attention, intrigue and mystery in every port she visits,” Blue Star Line’s chairman Clive Palmer promised.
Costing approximately $500 million to build, the masterpiece will accommodate 2,400 passengers and 900 crew and will include the latest navigational and technical equipment to avoid any potential Rose and Jack situations.
The Titanic II will be outfitted just like the original Titanic and will include the grand staircase featured in James Cameron’s iconic film Titanic. Best of all those wishing to sail on the replica will be able to purchase first, second and third-class tickets just like those traveling on the original Titanic did.
