Grab the popcorn and prepare yourself for a massive dose of childhood nostalgia with the long-awaited return of Miss Piggy and Kermit to TV!
Beginning February 19, Disney+ subscribers will be able to stream all five seasons of the original Muppet Show, which first aired in 1976. Created by Jim Hensen, the groundbreaking variety show featured guest appearances from a myriad of celebrities including Alice Cooper, Julie Andrews, Elton John, Mark Hammill, and Diana Ross.
“It’s going to be great to welcome back longtime fans, and to give a new generation of fans a chance to see how we got our start, how Miss Piggy became a star and so much more,” said Kermit the Frog in an official statement. “Today, I’m proud to say: ‘It’s time to play the music, light the lights and meet the Muppets on Disney Plus tonight!’ And as for Statler and Waldorf, the two old guys in the balcony, I can only add: ‘Sorry, guys, but….here we go again.”
The Muppet Show will join Disney+’s current Muppet library, which includes Muppets Most Wanted, The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper, and The Muppet Christmas Carol.
Unfortunately for Disney+ subscribers, the streaming service doesn’t own rights to the entire Muppet collection. Sony owns two of the Muppets most iconic movies – Muppets from Space and The Muppets Take Manhattan.
