In the spirit of all things Fall, it’s time to celebrate the humble pumpkin, which as it turns out is a beauty must-have for gorgeous, autumnal skin.
While it may taste great in a pumpkin spice latte, it’s actually packed full of fruit enzymes and alpha hydroxy acids, which help brighten the skin and aid in cell regeneration.
If the chilly Fall weather has your skin feeling a little dry and dull looking, pumpkin can help bring that gorgeous glow back thanks its abundance of vitamin A and C, which also helps smooth out wrinkles and prevent signs of aging.
Pumpkin is also great for acne-prone skin, thanks to the zinc it contains.
While there are a multitude of pumpkin themed beauty products on the market, you don’t have to go to the expense of buying anything other than a pumpkin (obviously) and creating your own DIY face mask with the addition of basics you already have in the pantry.
According to Treehugger.com, it’s very easy – and cheap – to make your own nutrient dense mask at home thanks to a recipe from dermatologist Dr. Ted Lain. Simply mix together one cup of cooked, fresh pumpkin puree, two tablespoons of brown sugar, one tablespoon of honey and a half cup yogurt. Spread over your face and let sit for 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.
Additionally, pumpkin makes an excellent body butter, with Treehugger suggesting a mix of equal parts pumpkin puree and coconut oil. Slather it all over the body and rinse off.
If cooler weather has your skin feeling dry and scaly, a pumpkin sugar scrub is just the key to get your skin feeling super smooth and silky. Simply mix together equal parts of pumpkin puree and olive oil and add enough sugar until you have thick consistency. Apply in the shower with a face cloth and rinse.
