As the race to develop treatments and vaccines for COVID-19 becomes a top priority. UK scientists are looking for willing research participants to be infected with the coronavirus.
According to Newsweek, hVIVO, an arm of a pharmaceutical company based in London, is looking for 24 participants willing to be infected with common strains of the large coronavirus family of pathogens. While the bug won’t be the same strain as the COVID-19 virus, it is close enough for scientists to safely test antiviral drugs and vaccines.
Newsweek reports the 24 participants will be paid £3.500 (approximately $4,380).
Each participant will be quarantined for 14 days at the clinic, nicknamed FluCamp. During their stay they will eat a healthy diet, exercise, and abstain from alcohol and tobacco.
