Popeyes announced that beginning Wednesday, chicken wings will be a permanent menu item at locations nationwide, and they will come in multiple new flavors.
The fast-food chicken chain previously offered wings as limited-time menu item, and they were an overnight success, prompting the move to offer them permanently.
“Ghost Pepper Wings were an overnight success, followed by the addition of Sweet N Spicy wings, our best performing product since the infamous Chicken Sandwich, Sami Siddiqui, President of Popeyes North America, said in a statement. We know our guests want even more bold Louisiana-inspired wing flavors to choose from and are excited to see our new wings line-up take flight.”
In addition to Ghost Pepper and Sweet ‘N Spicy, Popeyes is offering three new flavors: Signature Hot, Honey BBQ and Roasted Garlic Parmesan.
“This is something my team has been working on for three years, and we took our time to get it right. Ghost Pepper has become a heavy hitter in our arsenal of products, and in marrying that with our Wings we knew we had something special, said Head Chef, Amy Alarcon, Vice President of Culinary Innovation at Popeyes. Now, weve found ways to add flavors on top for a variety of tastes our guests are sure to love. And with our Sweet N Spicy Wings recently becoming the highest performing product since the Chicken Sandwich, we are beyond excited to unveil this full lineup.
Popeyes introduced its chicken sandwich in 2019 after nearly 50 years of serving fried chicken, chicken fingers, and fried shrimp. The sandwich was a sensation, and launched Popeyes firmly into the so-called chicken sandwich wars with rivals including Chick-fil-A.
Last month, Restaurant Brands International’s Popeyes for the first time overtook Yum Brands’ KFC as the nation’s No. 2 chicken chain, behind Chick-fil-A.
