A new study has found that hitting the gym before you eat breakfast can double your ability to burn fat.
According to Insider, the study carried out by researchers from the University of Bath and the University of Birmingham in the U.K. took a look at the best time of day to exercise.
Researchers studied 30 obese, or overweight men and divided them into three groups. One group exercised before breakfast, one group exercised after breakfast, and the third group made no changes to their daily routine.
According to Insider participants ate the same breakfast with the groups that exercised doing 60 minutes of cycling.
The study found that over the course of six weeks the group of men who exercised before breakfast burned twice as much fat as the group exercising after breakfast.
“Our results suggest that changing the timing of when you eat in relation to when you exercise can bring about profound and positive changes to your overall health,” Dr. Javier Gonzalez, co-author of the study said in a press release.
