Sad news for Lizzie McGuire fans – the Disney+ reboot of the early 2000’s show has been canceled.
According to Good Morning America, the reboot, which would have featured Hilary Duff reprising her famous role as a now, nearly 30-year-old working woman, has been canceled due to “fans’ high expectations for any new stories.”
“‘Lizzie McGuire’ fans have high expectations for any new stories,” a Disney spokesperson told Good Morning America. “Unless and until we are confident we can meet those expectations, we’ve decided to hold off and today, we informed the cast’s representatives that we are not moving forward with the planned series.”
Duff also shared the sad news on Instagram, telling fans, “I’m very sad, but everyone tried their best and the stars just didn’t align.”
“I’ve been so honored to have the character of Lizzie in my life,” Duff shared on Instagram. “She has made such a lasting impact on many, including myself.”
“I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today,” the Coming Clean singer told fans. “We can all take a moment to mourn the amazing woman she would have been and the adventures we would have taken with her.”
“Hey now, this is what 2020s made of,” Duff, who is expecting her third child, joked.
