Many Instagram users were left deeply upset when the social media company began presenting posts out of chronological order a couple years ago. But now it seems the company has listened to users and plans to once again change the way Instagram feeds show up.
In a blog post the social media giant announced they would be taking steps to ensure newer posts appear at the top of the feed. While it’s not quite the return to chronological order many users wanted, it is a step in the right direction.
“Based on your feedback, we’re also making changes to ensure that newer posts are more likely to appear first in feed,” the company announced.
“With these changes, your feed will feel more fresh, and you won’t miss the moments you care about,” the company promised.
Instagram also told users they would be addressing feedback from users who don’t like to be thrown back to the top of an Instagram feed every time it refreshes.
“We’ve heard it can feel unexpected when your feed refreshes and automatically bumps you to the top,” Instagram announced in their blog post. “So today we’re testing a “New Posts” button that lets you choose when you want to refresh, rather than it happening automatically…We hope this makes browsing Instagram more enjoyable.”
“Over the next few months, we’ll be sharing more about improvements we’re making to feed,” the company revealed. “Our goal is to be the best place to share and connect with the people and interests that matter most to you.”
