Kim, who welcomed new baby daughter Chicago a couple of months ago, sat down with Elle to share intimate details about the journey, telling the mag, “I refer to her as a surrogate, but it’s completely my and Kanye’s DNA, so technically that’s called a gestational carrier.”
Medical reasons led Kim to a surrogate after she suffered complications with her previous pregnancies with North and Saint, including the very painful placenta accreta. Placenta accreta occurs when the placenta doesn’t fully detach from the body.
“After giving birth, your placenta is supposed to come out,” Kim revealed to Elle. “But mine was stuck. That’s what women usually die from in childbirth – you hemorrhage and bleed to death and they can’t stop it. To get it out – it’s so disgusting – the doctor had to stick his whole arm in me and scrape it off. It was the most painful.”
When it came to picking out a candidate, Kim told the mag she knew immediately her surrogate was the right choice.
“It was a feeling,” Kim revealed. “You know when you can trust someone.” “I hated being pregnant,” Kim shared with Elle. “But as much as I hated it, I still wished I could have done it on my own. The control is hard at the beginning. Once you let that go, it’s the best experience. I would recommend surrogacy for everybody.”
