In a series of since-deleted tweets, Ariana Grande’s fractured relationship with the Recording Academy grew even more strained after the pop star expressed her dismay over her late-ex Mac Miller’s loss at the Grammys. Miller was nominated for ‘Best Rap Album’ for his album Swimming, but lost to Cardi B. While some initially thought Ariana’s tweet reading “Trash” and “Bull*” referred to Cardi, Grande explained it “had nothing to do with her” rather she was upset Miller’s family were invited to attend the Grammys only to watch him lose.
Grande was a no show at the ceremony, even though she won a Grammy for ‘Best Pop Vocal Album’ after a disagreement with the producers of the show. Grande was initially meant to perform but according to Rolling Stone, producers would only allow her to perform a medley including her hit “7 Rings” if they got to pick the second song. Ariana backed out but took to social media to showcase herself wearing the dress she would have worn to the Grammys. Ariana shared several different shots of herself wearing the gorgeous ice-blue silky gown, which was designed by Alfredo Flores. A “highly emotional” Grande took to Twitter following the ceremony to thanks fans for her win, tweeting, “it’s me your tiny, highly emotional, italian, and now grammy award winning friend. I’m super tarnished lol. but super grateful. thank you for everything. myron is in my arms n he says hi as well.”
